Stuck at the desk with work till 12:20pm, destroying aspirations to attempt the 4×10 min that sees HuRTS back and forth from St Mary’s down to Farm Cove. In truth, my hamstring is tight again and I was already fearful of those hills around MMC.
Nice little plan B thanks to a last minute email from Yum Cha. Part one a 4km warm-up around Hickson and into the heart of Barangaroo. From there, YC predictably started to overthink/fret about his own set (400s). In my impatience, I landed on 1km reps consisting 500m out to the south end (on the wharves), and 500m back.
The challenge here was a massive westerly, meaning the first 500m of every rep was brutal. Mentally, I got through the reps knowing as I turn, the job is done. Whilst the early splits are nothing to boast about, I tough’ed it out and got faster.
Splits: 3:33, 3:29, 3:29, 3:28, 3:23, 3:24, 3:23, 3:18
Legs very tired particularly after #6 and splits slower than half mara pace – not suggestive of good form. At least I got it done (and solo too). No idea how 3:30s can be sustained for the full distance?
A short c/d of 1km with YC saw me complete 15km at 4:06s.
