On my prior blog entry I had ‘Wed/Thurs’ when in reality the days were actually ‘Tues/Wed’. That’s what happens when you don’t get enough sleep.

Thursday – 6k tempo

Day off from work. Met Neil at the Boat Ramp near the Canal for an ‘easy 40 min’. Neil is pretty strict with the whole regime so we hugged the Le Montage side of the Bay Run, heading under the IC Bridge and out to that park near Balmain. 20 min out, 20 min back.

I’ve been on a quality streak of late – specifically 2 speed sets pw in January. So once I dropped Neil off at the Dog Park, I turned and decided to put a bit of honesty into a run. 6k Tempo in a CW direction of the Bay Run, finishing up on the South side of the IC bridge.

The effort was hard but steady. However after Tuesday I couldn’t really handle anything faster than 3:30s.

Splits: 3:40, 3:38, 3:35, 3:38, 3:35, 3:33

All up 8k warm-up, 6k tempo at MP and a 3k c/d.

Pleasingly the pain I’ve battled with in the last week seems to be subsiding. Left Achilles and right arch. If I can hold the Ks and maintain 2 sessions per week, I should hit some form.

Friday – Hobart

Flew in yesterday to cracking weather on Thursday afternoon. Does this mean Friday would be kind to me? No.

10 degrees, windy and raining at 6am. Headed out in the Sandy Bay Area to explore. Initially it was happy days near the water and Uni of Tas. However moving south I could only find hills which saw the pace slow to a modest 5:00s.

Friday is suppose to be a base/recovery day so there was little incentive to push hard. Hands were frozen by the time I completed my 14k run. The legs feel vastly improved relative to Tues, Wed and Thurs.

Over the weekend, I plan to tackle Mt Wellington on the road.

Here we are on a cracking Thursday early evening near the water. As I am unable to carry Trinity (8kg) due to poor upper body strength, I leave it to Lorie to manage.
